Community Listening Session on Proposed New Cell Phone Policy
Jackson Public Schools invites parents, guardians, and community stakeholders to a Community Listening Session to discuss a proposed new Electronic Devices Policy, set to go into effect during the 2025–2026 school year.
📅 Thursday, July 10
🕠 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
📍 JPS Board Room | 621 South State Street, Jackson, MS 39201
As schools work to create more focused and respectful learning environments, JPS is considering important changes in how personal electronic devices, such as cell phones, smartwatches, earbuds, and tablets are used during the school day.
The listening session will provide a space for open dialogue and address key questions, such as:
-
What happens if a scholar refuses to give up their phone?
-
Are exceptions made for medical or emergency needs?
-
What are the consequences, and how long will devices be held?
JPS leaders want to hear directly from families and the broader community as they shape a policy that supports learning, safety, and mutual respect in every school.
All are encouraged to attend, share feedback, and stay engaged as JPS works to ensure that every scholar has the best environment to learn and thrive.
