Dr. Lynn Horton

Dr. Lynn Horton is the principal at Timberlawn Elementary School. She has served in the educational arena for thirty-three years and she brings a profusion of knowledge to enhance teaching and learning here at Timberlawn Elementary School.  With a passion for fostering academic excellence and creating a nurturing learning environment, she is thrilled to serve the scholars, staff, parents and community of Timberlawn Elementary School in the Jackson Public School District.  She has a strong desire to promote academic performances and establishing a supportive learning environment.

Dr. Horton received her bachelor’s and master’s degree in Elementary Education from Jackson State University alongside a Specialist and Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership and Supervision from Mississippi State University. Her educational experiences have granted her the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of people to meet the same goal of increasing scholar achievements as well as enhancing professional capacity among staff. This year marks her eighth year as principal of Timberlawn Elementary School.

Prior to becoming a principal in the Jackson Public School District, she served in various capacities in education teaching both first and fourth grade scholars, in addition to serving as an assistant principal. Her educational philosophy is based on her uncompromising belief that all children are unique and should be provided with a positive and stimulating educational environment where they can grow and thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

Throughout the years as principal of Timberlawn Elementary School, she has cultivated an environment of unity, fairness, hard work, and respect amongst the Timberlawn Elementary School family. She believes in the importance of building relationships with scholars, parents, faculty members, and the community.
